What is special about shape memory components?
- Shape memory alloys (SMA) are exceptional materials that can perform a wide range of tasks.
- SMA have two main effects: the mechanical effect (spring/damping elements) and the thermal effect (actuators/connectors).
- After a deformation of 8% (steel approx. 0.2%), shape memory wires always return to their original shape.
- Shape memory components have the greatest weight-specific working capacity of all known actuator principles.
- Unique and novel designs can be realised through the use of shape memory components.
